More Boston Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile
BOSTON (AP) -- Boston health officials say mosquito pools in Boston's Back Bay, Fenway and Jamaica Plain neighborhoods have tested positive for the West Nile Virus.
The announcement Friday means that the areas have added to the positive mosquito pools detected in Boston's West Roxbury, Hyde Park, Roslindale, East Boston, South Boston, and Dorchester neighborhood.
Last week, the Massachusetts Department of Health raised the risk level for West Nile Virus infection in Boston from low to moderate. Despite the increased positive mosquito pools, there have been no confirmed human cases of the virus in Boston this year.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, symptoms of West Nile include fever, headache, neck stiffness, body aches or a rash on the stomach, chest or back.
