Car Plows Over Gas Pump Following Crash In Methuen

METHUEN (CBS) – A car slammed through a pump at a Methuen gas station Sunday morning after a crash with another vehicle nearby. It happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Green and Haverhill Streets.

One of the cars careened into a pump at the nearby Mobil station on Haverhill Street. The gas pump was completely torn away from the island and started to leak fuel.

Police said a teenaged gas station employee likely prevented a fire by quickly turning off the pump.

"The teenager acted outstanding in that situation, didn't panic, knew exactly what to do. We credit the gas station for the training they did with that employee and all their employees," said Police Captain Kristopher McCarthy.

The crash resulted in only minor injuries.

One of the cars involved went through a red light before the collision. Police are working to determine which car.
