Kevin Youkilis Likely Out Tuesday With Hamstring Injury
BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis injured his hamstring while running out a ground ball in the eighth inning Monday night against the Royals.
"His heel kind of gave way a little bit, and he felt it in his hamstring," said Red Sox manager Terry Francona.
Youk left the game and was replaced by Yamaico Navarro. He went 0-3 at the plate before being pulled.
Francona said after the game that Youkilis "should be OK," but he probably won't play him against the Royals Tuesday night.
"The exam was really good. He had full range of motion," said Francona. "He's a little beat up in a lot of areas."
The Boston Globe's Peter Abraham told Toucher & Rich that he doesn't think Youk's injury is too serious.
"Well it sounds like that it's not something that's serious. It could be the kind of thing where misses one night and comes back. Youk seems to have one of these every two weeks or so where he hammers his knee or his ankle or his hamstring on something and then misses a game and comers back after that and is fine," said Abraham.
In 93 games this season, Youkilis is hitting .279 with 14 HRs, 72 RBI, and a .395 on-base percentage.
