Keller @ Large: Picking Patriots-Jets Winner
BOSTON (CBS) - I don't pretend to be any kind of sports expert, just a lifelong Boston sports fan with that unique mixture of knowledge, bias, and passion that characterizes the Boston sports fan.
But for what it's worth, I have a prediction to make about the outcome of the big Pats-Jets playoff game this Sunday in Foxboro. This is for entertainment purposes only, no wagering, please.
Before I make my pick, allow me to offer some insight into my thought process.
As we know from last year's grim experience, the Patriots, while proven winners, are capable of losing a playoff game. But last year was last year, and this is a healthier, better balanced Patriots team. The Jets, meanwhile, are a talented team that has essentially never won anything.
Experience edge: Patriots.
It has been interesting to watch the two teams prepare for this game. Jets coach Rex Ryan apparently feels that his team is scared of what might happen to them Sunday, after the thorough beating they absorbed here last month.
Why else would he feel compelled to resort to cheap insults to motivate his crew? Speaking of which, Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie, last seen being used as a turnstile by Patriot receivers, has followed his coach's lead by hurling obscenities at Tom Brady, as if anything good can come from that.
Psychological edge: Patriots.
And finally, the Patriots represent New England, a place where we know how to dig out from a snowstorm, and getting ripped off in overrated restaurants is not a popular pastime. The Jets pretend to represent New York, but they're really the New Jersey Jets.
Geographical edge: Patriots.
So, here's my pick -- Pats by 20.
If I'm right, you heard it here first.
If I'm wrong, forget I said anything.
But I won't be wrong.
Go, Patriots.
