Judge Denies Request To Unseal Documents In UNH Student's Murder

DOVER (CBS) - The judge in the case of murdered University of New Hampshire student Lizzi Marriott has denied newspapers' requests to unseal documents related to the case.

Judge Stephen Morrison said he was concerned opening the documents would lessen accused murderer Seth Mazzaglia's chance at a fair trial.

Information about the case, including affidavits, have been sealed because prosecutors were concerned it would make potential witnesses reluctant to come forward and aid in the investigation.

Mazzaglia, 29, of Dover is charged with second degree murder. He is being held at Strafford County Jail.

The judge also denied a request to release a redacted version of the search warrants.

The Foster's Daily Democrat, The New Hampshire Union Leader and the Portsmouth Herald had requested the affidavits be unsealed.
