Mass. Man Accidentally Killed During Youth Turkey Hunt

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (AP) — Police say a 44-year-old man was accidentally shot and killed during a youth turkey hunt in western Massachusetts.

Great Barrington Police Chief William Walsh says the man was handling a shotgun when he was shot around noon Saturday in a wooded area near Monument Valley Road.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Christopher Puntin, of Pittsfield. No one else was injured in the shooting.

Police say Puntin was participating in a youth turkey hunt with two other adults and a juvenile when he was shot. Investigators say it appears to have been an accident.

The death is being investigated by Massachusetts Environmental Police and Massachusetts State Police.
