The Patriots have been taking a lot of flack for the deal they offered wide receiver Wes Welker that led him to signing a deal with the Denver Broncos. Owner Robert Kraft came out and said that the Patriots wanted Welker back and claimed that the offer the Patriots made was actually better than the one he took from Denver.
Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich to discuss Kraft's comments and the deals offered to Welker.
"I think for starters Robert Kraft really had to tip the scales in his and the Patriots' favor and this was obviously a very contentious negotiation for much more than a year and the public perception swayed heavily in Welker's favor for a large majority of that," Howe commented. "I think you can look at what Kraft said and take it and kind of digest it a little bit, but don't fully believe everything he said."
The deal that the Patriots offered Welker included some incentives. Were these incentives attainable or just a smoke screen to make the deal sound better than it actually was?
