BOSTON (CBS) - The House voted Wednesday to overturn a ban on bake sales at schools in Massachusetts.

The amendment, offered by Republican Rep. Brad Hill, allows local school districts to decide whether to allow bake sales, which are used to help fund school programs, to occur during school hours, according to State House News Services.

The ban was originally written into a $72 million mid-year spending plan, according to the report.

The amendment must travel through the state Senate before it reaches Gov. Deval Patrick's desk for signature.

The ban would have taken effect on Aug. 1 based on regulations adopted by the Department of Public Health, according to State House News Services. The ban was part of a new school nutrition law.
