Hot Takes With Bob Socci: 'Far Too Premature' To Count The Patriots Out
BOSTON (CBS) - Patriots radio play-by-play man Bob Socci joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger & Massarotti in studio Friday afternoon to offer up some hot sports takes!
The Patriots appear to be in dire straights right now.
A 2-2 record, while not up to the standards we're used to seeing for this team, is still tied for the best record in the AFC East. And while the offense has looked bad and the defense can play better, we've seen this team get off to slow starts before and become a well-oiled machine by season's end.
Bob Socci, noting other examples in recent NFL history, thinks it's too early to bail on the season.
"Jeff Howe wrote about 'Blowout Losses For Playoff-Bound Teams' this week in the Herald, and one of the teams he noted were the Giants of 2011, who were blown out in Week 12 on Monday Night Football by San Francisco," said Socci.
"That Giants team wound up going 7-7 in its first 14 games, won their last two regular season games, got into the playoffs, beat Atlanta, went on the road in Green Bay, won an ugly game against San Francisco in overtime and of course we know what happened in the Super Bowl. Even after the Super Bowl, Pro Football Focus ranked the Giants as having the second worst offensive line in football.
"Things clicked at the right time for that particular team. So I think after four games, and all the problems we've seen with the Patriots, it's still far too premature to count this team out."
