Gresh & Zo: Sean McAdam On A Different Spring Training For The Red Sox
With Spring Training getting under way for the Boston Red Sox, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh and Zolak were joined by Red Sox insider Sean McAdam from down in Fort Myers.
It's a much different spring training experience for Sox with Bobby Valentine in charge, with pitchers taking some BP and working on their bunting very early on. McAdam sounded encouraged with Valentine's new approach to preparation.
"I don't get the sense that anything he is doing is designed to shock anybody or is in any way punitive based on how last year ended. I think if Terry Francona had managed the Red Sox to a World Series win and, like Tony La Russa walked away... I think it would be exactly the same way."
"This is who he is," McAdam said of Valentine. "It's not 'I'm going to get their attention early,' this is not 'they weren't focused last September.' This is who Bobby Valentine is and how he operates."
"There is no stone left unturned. There is a great attention to detail and he's always thinking about some way to make his team a little bit better," said McAdam. "Maybe in a couple of weeks or months, you might detect some eye rolling on the part of some players that aren't used to the hands on, attention to fundamentals and detail at the Major League level. But right now, everyone is buying in."
McAdam also sounds off on the compensation the Red Sox receiver from the Chicago Cubs for the Theo Epstein signing, as well as Red Sox DH David Ortiz's new contract.
