Gresh And Zo: McAdam Says Surgery 'Not Likely' For Pedroia

BOSTON (CBS) - Sean McAdam joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh and Zo to discuss the Dustin Pedroia "knee situation," and the good news is McAdam is hearing surgery is not likely for the Red Sox second baseman.

"Late last night there was a sentiment that surgery was not likely, although it remains something on the table and could come to that," McAdam said. "A number of people I talked to late last night didn't think it would require a procedure."

Pedroia flew back to Boston to have his right knee examined by team doctor Thomas Gill. Pedroia hurt his right knee back in May when diving for a ball against the Orioles. Although he has experienced some pain, Pedroia played through it as he has been known to do.

The 2008 AL MVP is off to a slow start, hitting just .247 with 22 RBI. Some speculation was it could still be his surgically repaired left foot that was causing the season-long slump, come to find out Pedroia was also battling a knee injury.

"At least it's an explanation, or some sort of cause and effect for the sub-par year that Pedroia is having offensively. This is clearly not who he is," said McAdam.
