Gift means enrollment can expand at MIT

Massachusetts Institute of Technology will be admitting more students in the future, thanks to a $24 million gift from an alumnus.
MIT announced on Wednesday that the gift from Fairborz Maseeh (MAH'-see) and his charitable foundation will enable the school to add about 250 undergraduate students over the next three years, expanding its total enrollment to 4,500 students.
MIT is renovating a dormitory on campus to accommodate the extra students. The dorm will open next September and be named for Maseeh, who earned a degree in civil engineering from the school in 1990.
