Felger & Mazz: Should Celtics Revisit DeMarcus Cousins Trade Talks?
BOSTON (CBS) -- While many are dreaming about Kevin Durant becoming a Boston Celtic this summer, Felger & Mazz are trying to take a realistic approach to the offseason.
There's a chance Durant could bring his talents to Boston, but as Chris Mannix noted on Toucher & Rich Tuesday morning, Danny Ainge will have to make sure there's a sidekick in place (or at least in the plans) to lure Durant to the C's.
Chicago's Jimmy Butler is among the interesting targets on the wish list, but what about DeMarcus Cousins? The temperamental Sacramento center will likely be available with the Kings once again looking to rebuild, and the Celtics have the assets to pull off a deal. While many balked at the notion of trading for Cousins during last season, Felger & Mazz are much more open if it makes the team more appealing to Durant -- or at the very least means a superstar-level player will be on the roster.
"If Durant is your leader, I would consider it," said Mazz. "If it's Durant's team, and Cousins now has to answer to Durant, I'm more open to it."
Felger said he likes the idea of a Cousins trade because it's a much more plausible option than trading for Butler.
"I'm just trying to be realistic," he said. "That is the guy you're going to get -- a disgruntled guy. If it's a viable young superstar, why would the team trade him? It's going to be easier to get Cousins; he'll be available and you'll have to give up less. You'll have to give up a lot on both guys, but I think Cousins is more doable.
"I'm coming around on the a-hole because I'd rather have the a-hole than Tyler Zeller," said Felger. "If that's what it takes to have second or third-round action, bring me the a-hole."
