Embattled 9-1-1 Dispatcher Resigns

MASHPEE (CBS) – A 9-1-1 dispatcher has resigned amid accusations that she failed to help a man trying to save his fiancée.

Katie Gill died in September, when her fiancé, Brent McFarland, found her choking inside their Mashpee home.

McFarland called 9-1-1.  The call lasted 12 minutes, but Dispatcher Rhonda Colburn never talked McFarland through any rescue maneuvers, not even the Heimlich.

According to Barnstable County Sheriff James Cummings, Colburn left her position earlier this week.

Cummings initiated an investigation into the death, and determined procedure had not been followed by the dispatcher.
