HOPKINTON (CBS) -- A driver was seriously hurt after his vehicle slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 495 North in Hopkinton on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters and State Police were called to the accident at exit 22 near the Massachusetts Turnpike shortly after 6 a.m.

The man had to be freed using the Jaws of Life.

He was rushed to MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham.

The driver suffered life-threatening injuries.

His current condition is unknown.

The man has not been identified.

The tractor-trailer driver was not hurt.

No charges have been filed.

State Police tweeted the right lane of I-495 North was shut down during the investigation.
