EAST PROVIDENCE (CBS) – A dog who survived a horrifying trip from Massachusetts to Rhode Island last month has been reunited with her owners.

Suzy, a white poodle-mix, was hit by a Toyota traveling about 50 miles per hour on Route 44 in Taunton back on September 20th.

The driver stopped, but didn't see the dog anywhere, so he continued driving into Rhode Island.

When he pulled up to a traffic light in East Providence, another driver told him there was a dog wedged in the front grill of his car.

It had been there for 11 miles.

William Muggle, the animal control supervisor in East Providence, told WBZ-TV the driver immediately went to the police station, where officers removed the dog safely.

She was then taken to an animal hospital.

Muggle said Suzy had a concussion and a ruptured bladder.

"It's very exciting we're so, so happy the dog was able to get back to its owner," says Muggle.

A friend of the dog's owners saw the report on the news and alerted them. Suzy and her owners, Donna and Pete, were reunited late Tuesday afternoon.

"It's wonderful," says Donna. "We were very surprised, very happy.  She's a miracle."

"I hadn't heard anything so I figured the worst, basically, until a friend of mine called me last night and saw it on the news," says Pete. "It's just amazing that she made it. It's a miracle, that's it."

WBZ-TV's Jim Armstrong contributed to this report.
