Doctors: Mayor Menino Resting After Surgery
BOSTON (CBS) - Boston Mayor Tom Menino underwent successful surgery on Saturday, a day after twisting his right ankle and sustaining a spiral fracture of the distal fibula.
Doctors at Brigham and Women's Hospital said in a statement that the surgery was minor and lasted less than an hour.
"The surgery lasted less than one hour and included the placement of a plate and screws to repair the broken bone. (Menino) tolerated the surgery well and without complication," the statement from Mitchel B. Harris, MD, Chief Orthopedic Trauma Service, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Michael J. Weaver, MD, Instructor of Orthopedic Surgery, Brigham and Women's Hospital said.
Menino will be fitted for a walking boot and will require crutches for the next couple of months.
Doctors expect Mayor Menino will make a full recovery.
