David Pastrnak Injury Update: Bruins Forward In Cast For Two More Weeks

BOSTON (CBS) -- Injured star David Pastrnak returned to the ice for the Bruins on Monday, but he won't be back in the Boston lineup anytime soon.

It has been two weeks since Pastrnak underwent surgery on his left thumb, and he'll be in a cast for another two weeks, Boston GM Don Sweeney announced Monday afternoon.

"He'll be in the cast for two more weeks, and then after that, he'll be fitted for a splint. Then it's a matter of comfort," Sweeney said of his star forward.

Pastrnak hit the ice at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton on Monday, skating on his own ahead of the team's practice. It's the first time he's been back on the ice since suffering the thumb injury, which occurred on a fall following a team event.

The 22-year-old was on pace to top 40 goals for the first time in his career before the injury. Pastrnak has scored 31 goals with 35 assists in his 56 games played this season. He still leads the Bruins in goals while ranking second behind Brad Marchand in assists and points.

Boston hasn't missed a beat since Pastrnak went down though, going 5-0-1 during his absence. The team has now earned points in each of their last 11 games, and now sit in second in the Atlantic Division with 81 points.
