Daily Talker: Gay Parents' Foster Fight
This morning, two mothers desperately want to see a judge's ruling overturned .. and their baby foster daughter returned.
On Tuesday, a juvenile court judge ordered the baby to be taken from the home of April Hoagland and Rebecca Peirce and placed with a heterosexual couple.
According to Peirce, the judge said he had seen research that children fare better in heterosexual homes than in homes with parents of the same gender.
He declined to provide that research, but the couple believes his decision was influenced by religious beliefs. The judge obtained his law degree from the Mormon Church's Brigham Young University.
Utah's Division of Child and Family Services still supports the legally-married couple's bid to be foster parents, and has filed a motion to stay the judge's order.
Should a judge be allowed to ignore the law in favor of personal beliefs? What do you think is best for the child?
