Elderly Couple Rescued From Submerged Car In Fitchburg
FITCHBURG (CBS) – Two elderly people were rescued from an overturned car in the Nashua River Sunday morning.
The car driven by 80-year-old Marie Boudreau flipped over, submerging her and her husband 85-year-old Rennie Boudreu in the cold water.
When rescue crews arrived, neither had a pulse. They did regain a pulse before being taken to the hospital.
The car entered the river near the British American Club in Fitchburg at approximately 8:45am, police said.
Fitchburg Police officer Paul McNamara says police and firefighters "entered the rapidly moving, frigid water, using a collective physical effort to lift the submerged vehicle from its roof and turn it upright."
The victims were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and were transported to UMass Medical Center. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
The crash is under investigation.
