CAMBRIDGE - Police are investigating a reported sexual assault by a masked man carrying a knife. The attack happened inside the bathroom of a Cambridge business on Friday night.

It happened on Cambridgepark Drive around 9:20 p.m.

As of Sunday, police are still searching for the attacker.

"Detectives processed a crime scene in a restroom of a commercial building and began working with Massachusetts State Police and Middlesex District Attorney's Office to identify and search for the suspect," Cambridge police said.

No arrests made

Neighbors are concerned that police have not yet arrested anyone.

"Masks are a new normal since the pandemics. It's unfortunate that people take advantage of that situation potentially and use it to hide identity for their crimes," one man who lives in the area said.

"Really scary and concerning," Cambridge neighbor Hannah Graves said.

Public asked to help

Cambridge police said they have assigned extra patrols in the area as an additional precaution.

"As a young woman walking around the city, I am always concerned for my safety, specifically around sexual assault," says Graves.

Anyone who sees suspicious behavior or feels threatened is asked to call 911 immediately.

State police are asking anyone with information to call them at 508-820-2300. Tips can also be entered online through the Cambridge Police Department website

There is no more information on the attack currently available.
