3 arrested after shooting at Arundel Mills Mall leads to police chase
Three people were arrested after a shooting at Arundel Mills Mall on Saturday led to a police chase into Baltimore County, according to Anne Arundel County police.
Brandon Eric Edwards, Jr., 21, of Severan Park, Daevone D'andrew Johnson, 24, of Glen Burnie and Elija Amontay Fisher, 20, of Glen Burnie, were taken into custody following the incident. It is currently unclear what charges they are facing.
Gunshots at Arundel Mills
Police were called to the Burlington Coat Factory store at the mall around 5 p.m. after gunshots were fired.
A man told officers that he was leaving the store when several people approached and started assaulting him. During the altercation, the man told officers that he tried to grab his handgun, but the suspects struggled to take it.
According to police, the man fired his gun during the fight, hitting one of the suspects.
The suspects then fled the mall with the man's gun and phone. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
"For unknown reasons, they began assaulting him," said Anne Arundel County Police spokesperson Justin Mulcahy. "During the assault, he pulled out a handgun, there was a struggle over the handgun, and he ended up striking one of the suspects."
Police chase
Police identified the suspects' vehicle as a black Nissan Altima, which was found in Glen Burnie.
The vehicle fled the area, going northbound on I-97 into Baltimore County, leading police on a pursuit, officials said. The suspects' vehicle then exited onto I-695, where it crashed. Three occupants then fled on foot.
Police continued to follow the suspects, with the help of Baltimore City and County police, and an aviation unit.
Edwards, Johnson, and Fisher were eventually arrested, according to officers.
"The vehicle then flees from our officers, and ultimately crashes off of I-695 in Baltimore County," Mulcahy said. "The three suspects flee on foot and they were all taken into custody."
An Anne Arundel County Police officer was injured during a separate crash during the response and was treated at a hospital and released, officials said.
Two of the suspects were also treated for non-life-threatening injuries related to the crash. A third suspect was treated for a gunshot wound, police said.
The victim's handgun was recovered in the parking lot of the Burlington Coat Factory, and his cellphone was recovered near Route 100 and Oakwood Road in Glen Burnie, according to officials.
Police said the motive and the suspects' relationship to the victim are currently unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
"We are grateful for the coordination with mall officials and mall security and the quick actions of our responding officers, and the information that was relayed from our Real-Time Information Center," Mulcahy said.
