Bruins' Peverley Out 4-6 Weeks With MCL Sprain

BOSTON (CBS) - Boston Bruins forward Rich Peverley will be out 4-6 weeks, general manager Peter Chiarelli announced on Friday.

Peverley suffered a third degree MCL sprain in his right knee during the Bruins 4-3 shoot out win over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. He took a knee-to-knee hit from Canadiens defenseman Hal Gill, and was sent back to Boston for examinations as the rest of the team went to Winnipeg for Friday night's game against the Jets.

Peverley, who started the season on the Bruins third line before being bumped up to the top line in place of the injured Nathan Horton, has nine goals and 29 assists through 49 games. The winger's 29 helpers are second on the team, behind Patrice Bergeron.

Peverley was acquired by Boston at the trade deadline last season, and played a pivotal role in the Bruins Stanley Cup run.

Boston has not recalled a forward from Providence as of Friday morning, so forward Josh Hennessy could see some ice time in Peverley's absence.
