Bourne Police Officer Arrested After Bar Fight

BOURNE (CBS) – A Bourne police officer was arrested by his colleagues earlier this week after getting into a fight at a local bar.

Jeffrey Lanoie, 49, was taken into custody late Wednesday night after investigators say he got into a scuffle with a person at the Trading Post Lounge in Buzzards Bay.

Lanoie was off-duty and he had been drinking, according to Bourne Police Chief Dennis Woodside.

He's charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and malicious destruction of property over $250.

Woodside told WBZ-TV Lanoie refused to comply with officers when they showed up at the bar and they had to call for backup, including state police troopers.

The other person in the fight was not arrested, the chief said.

Lanoie will be arraigned in Wareham District Court Friday.

Woodside said internal and criminal investigations have been started in the case.

Lanoie been a patrolman with the department for more than twenty years.

He received a Medal of Merit from the Massachusetts Police Association in November. Lanoie was one of six officers honored for their actions in an incident in February in which Bourne police Officer Jared MacDonald was shot in the back.
