Keller @ Large: Good Weather = Good Mood
BOSTON (CBS) - On a day like this one, with the temperature headed for 70 degrees for the first time in four months, our thoughts turn to the good times ahead, when living here in the Athens of America turns from grinding chore to exquisite pleasure.
On a day like this, Bostonians are liberated from our bulky coats and boots. And while tanning will have to wait, we look better and feel better. That tends to make us behave better. The usual traffic road rage will be less in evidence today, as the irresistible Boston driver compulsion to get to the next red light before you do fades away, however temporarily. Your fellow pedestrians will be less likely to elbow you aside with a scowl; you might even get a smile and nod, if you're willing to give one.
When your MBTA bus or train runs late today, you will be less inclined to let it unleash a torrent of cursing and ruin your day. Being kept waiting won't be quite as onerous. You might even hum along with the musician on the platform who normally draws a dirty look.
A day like this in early March is, of course, a giant tease. But the long-range forecast shows nothing close to a freezing day, maybe a little chilly for St. Patrick's Day, but that's it. And even if we did get one last shot of ice or snow, it wouldn't last.
It won't be long before our weather is the envy of Florida and all the other sweatboxes that love to laugh at our winter misery. And we'll all be reminded of why, whatever we mutter under our breath about living here during the cold months, this is the best place in America to be the rest of the time.
