BOSTON (CBS) -- The headmaster at Boston Latin School said the school has taken action against a student who posted racially-tinged comments on social media with the hashtag #BlackAtBLS.

In January, Boston Latin students raised concerns about racism. Allegations of civil rights violations at the prestigious Boston high school have prompted a federal investigation.

In a letter to the school community, headmaster Lynne Mooney Teta said the school would not condone hateful, racially-motivated incidents of any nature.

"As we continue our work to develop a more inclusive, equitable and caring school climate, I am resolute in my commitment to ensuring that BLS is a safe and welcoming learning environment where racism and bias have no place," said Teta.

She did not specify what the disciplinary action taken against the student was.

Teta's letter also said staff would gather student input and then hold a "full day of dialogue, reflection and commitment" with the student body.

Boston Public Schools said in a statement that they could not discuss details of the incident.

"However, the Boston Latin School administration dealt with this matter accordingly through the BPS student code of conduct," the Boston Public Schools statement read. "BLS leaders and students are actively working in collaboration to create a respectful, safe and supportive learning environment for all students."

The #BlackAtBLS hashtag was created earlier this year by two African-American students, members of the student group B.L.A.C.K. (Black Leaders Advocating for Change and Knowledge), who introduced it on YouTube.
