Beers On Savard: "Gives Bruins Some Flexibility"

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Bruins have scheduled a 2 p.m. press conference Monday afternoon to announce Marc Savard being shut down for the rest of the season.

Even before the presser was announced, Boston was abuzz with Savard talk.  98.5 The Sports Hub's Bruins analyst Bob Beers joined Steve Burton on Sports Final OT Sunday night,

"First of all, you have to look at Marc Savard and his health," Beers said. "His ability to live a normal life. You hope that's alright"

Savard suffered his second major concussion in the last year January 22nd in Colorado on a check into the boards. He was re-evaluated by team doctors on Friday and the decision to shut him down was made over the weekend.

On Friday, general manager Peter Chiarelli told the media Savard is still suffering from vertigo and headaches on a daily basis.

With Savard on the shelf, Beers said it would give the team some flexibility heading into the February 28th NHL trade deadline. With some cap space, the Bruins could target another forward or defenseman.

"I've been on record all year saying they need a little help on defense," Beers said. "As good as they are at defending and playing well, that guy that can help that power play would be a big boost for them."

The Bruins have not scored a power play goal since Savard went down, going 0-for-12 in their last five games.

What do you think the Bruins should use their cap space for? A goal scoring forward, a puck moving defender, or both? Post your thoughts below.
