Anti-Tax Activist Endorses GOP Candidate Dan Winslow For U.S. Senate
BOSTON (AP) — One of the state's top anti-tax activists is backing Republican Daniel Winslow for U.S. Senate.
Barbara Anderson, executive director of Citizens for Limited Taxation, formally announced her endorsement of Winslow at a press conference on the Statehouse steps Tuesday.
Anderson said Winslow is a true fiscal conservative. She also praised him for being a supporter of gun rights, gay marriage and abortion rights.
Anderson is best known for championing Prop 2 1/2, which was approved by voters in 1980.
The measure radically changed the way cities and towns raise taxes to pay for municipal services. It limits communities from raising property taxes by more than 2.5 percent a year without approval from voters.
Winslow is facing off against fellow Republicans Michael Sullivan and Gabriel Gomez in the U.S. Senate GOP primary on April 30.
