A Green Light For The Weekend
After maxing out at 92 degrees in Boston on Wednesday, the temperature peaked at 88 today. The cold front which aided in triggering yesterday's scattered showers and boomers slowly settled south of Boston during today. So the humidity decreased north and west of the city but remained high farther south of the Mass Pike. With little additional push to this drier air, it will stay muggy from southern CT, southern RI and across most of Cape Cod tonight where some patches of dense fog could form. Meantime, in the lower humidity north and west of Boston, it will cool off to 56-61 degrees by late tonight. A band of high cloudiness will shift southeastward across the region this evening followed by another plume of cloudiness blossoming northeastward late tonight and tomorrow from the stalled frontal boundary to the south.
There is support for some showers to break out at least south of the Mass Pike tomorrow morning. Some of these may spread into and north of the Boston area in the afternoon and evening. Meanwhile, another frontal boundary will be pushing into New England from the west tomorrow night. It could produce a few showers to the north and west of Boston. This boundary will arrive at the coastline early Saturday and it will shove all of the moisture offshore from northwest to southeast Saturday morning. As a result, plan on improving conditions Saturday morning with clearing leading to a sunshine and patches of clouds by midday through the afternoon. After tomorrow's 70s, it will recover to 80-85 on Saturday although an onshore breeze could keep it in the 75-80 range at the beaches. Every once in a while, the weather can be just about guaranteed. Plan on that for Sunday when a bubble of high pressure should create plentiful sunshine with low humidity. After starting out in the comfortable 50s early in the morning, it will recover to near 85 except about 75-80 at most of the beaches. In fact, it will be beautiful from the summits to the seashores. The visibility will be superb in almost all locations. High tides will occur between 6 and 7 in the morning and the evening on Saturday and between 7 and 8 in the morning and evening on Sunday. The ocean has warmed up to 64-70 degrees and most of New England's lakes are in the 70s. For boaters, there will be a northeast to easterly breeze of 7 up to no more than 13-15 knots on Saturday with a variable breeze of 5-10 knots offshore and an east-southeast to southerly breeze closer to the coastline on Sunday. Apply that sunscreen due to a high UV Index.
Looking ahead, the bubble of high pressure will shift offshore and strengthen south of New England resulting in a freshening southwesterly wind on Monday. This flow of air will pump the hot air and high humidity back into the region on Monday and lasting into Tuesday. I anticipate highs near 91 or 92 except middle 70s to lower 80s on Cape Cod and the South Coast plus outer Cape Ann and the ME coast. The next cold front could release some showers and thunderstorms over the northern mountains later Monday and parts of southern New England on Tuesday. After that, another sprawling high pressure system will build in to provide delightful weather with low humidity and highs near or just over 80 next Wednesday and Thursday. I hope you're loving this summer as much as I am so far. With no prolonged spell of excessive heat and stifling humidity, I am a very happy camper. How about you?
