64 Arrests Made At UNH-UMass Game At Gillette

BOSTON (CBS) – Gillette Stadium's "Colonial Clash" between UMass and UNH got a little out of hand on Saturday.

64 arrests were made at the game according to The Sun Chronicle, with alcohol playing the main factor.

Police put 48 fans into protective custody for intoxication, with 10 of 16 criminal arrests for minors in possession of alcohol, and another for providing alcohol to a minor.

Two of the arrests were juveniles under the age of 17.

Head of Gillette Stadium security Edward O'Leary told the Sun Chronicle many of the arrests stemmed from non-university sanctioned "Party Buses" that arrived to the game with already intoxicated students and alumni.

Many of those arriving on the buses did not even try and enter the game, instead opting to head for the restaurants in Patriot Place.

The 48 people put into protective custody topped the 41 from the prior week's Patriots-Cowboys game. The only difference is there were 69,003 attending that game, compared to the 19,800 for the college game.

Seven students were placed in protective custody around Patriot Place after the game.

Last year, a larger crowd for the first Colonial Clash ended in just 41 custodies.

UNH won this year's game 27-21.
