Police Say 138 Bottles Of THC-Infused Drinks, Firearm Seized From Whitman Man's Home

WHITMAN (CBS) - A Whitman man was arrested Friday after police said they seized 138 bottles of THC-infused drinks, other drugs, cash and a homemade firearm from his home.

Whitman Police Chief Scott D. Benton said Derek Sheehan, 35, of Whitman, allegedly sold THC-infused drinks to an undercover police detective three times in March, which police said contained 100-150 milligrams of THC. The drinks were selling for $10-$15 each.

"He was making his own stuff.  He certainly wasn't a pharmacist; he didn't go to medical school. He was just eye-balling it, making his own stuff, packaging it," Benton said.

The W.E.B Major Crimes and Drug Task Force, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Plymouth County Bureau of Criminal Investigation executed a search warrant of Sheehan's home Friday.

Police said they found 138 bottles of THC-infused drinks, THC-infused cookies, a bag containing mushrooms, THC vape cartridges, marijuana and $5,000 cash in Sheehan's home. Police allegedly found 25 of the beverages and a pound of marijuana in Sheehan's car, as well.

"He had jars of cannabinoid oil and stuff that he was cooking up and making his product with. It was quite an extensive operation," Benton said.

According to police, Sheehan was working with five or six others, cooking down the marijuana, bottling the drinks and packaging them. The drinks were being sold on Facebook and Snapchat and were aimed at young adults, police said.

Police also found an allegedly unregistered firearm, which they said Sheehan assembled himself after buying parts on the "dark web."

Parents are urged to pay close attention to the beverages their children are consuming.

"You look at these drinks, and I would swear that it was just some drink that a kid had going to a sports game, took to school with them," Benton said.

Sheehan will face multiple drug charges as well as a charge of possession of a large capacity firearm. He is being held at the Plymouth House of Corrections on $75,000 bail pending his arraignment in Brockton District Court, which is scheduled for Monday.

The W.E.B. Task Force is a combined unit consisting of detectives from the Whitman, West Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, Bridgewater and Bridgewater State University Police departments.
