Suspect wanted in deadly Fayette County shooting taken into custody in Maryland
The suspect wanted in a deadly shooting in Uniontown last week was taken into custody, according to the Fayette County District Attorney's Office.
Braedon Dickinson, 18, was taken into custody on Friday morning in Baltimore, Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele said. He is accused of fatally shooting 20-year-old Lemaur Thompson Jr. on Dunlap Street last Thursday in Uniontown. A $2,000 reward was offered for information leading to Dickinson's arrest.
After the shooting, Aubele said the 18-year-old was considered a person of interest, saying the shooting was not random but "an intentional, deliberate act." As Thompson lay shot in the middle of the street, Aubele said Dickinson went through the victim's pockets.
The DA said it was the victim's cell phone that led law enforcement to a home in Baltimore where Dickinson was arrested. Aubele could not say on Friday what other evidence was collected at the home or who else may have been there.
"We're still trying to figure out exactly what the motive is," Aubele said after the shooting. "Both of these individuals are known to the state police for having connections to at least one street gang within the community."
The 18-year-old young man was previously charged in connection with the July 2022 deadly shooting of Jason Raiford in New Kensington. Dickinson was 14 years old at the time. His case was de-certified from adult court to juvenile court. Dickinson also escaped from a juvenile detention center in Hempfield Township in 2023.
Dickinson will be transported back to Pennsylvania in the coming days to face homicide charges.
