Police Charge Man In Slaying Of Woman Found Dead Along Trail

HYATTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County police have made an arrest in the slaying of a woman was found dead along a hiking trail in Hyattsville on New Year's Day.

Police announced Thursday that they have charged 18-year-old Marvin Vazquez-Juarez with first-and second-degree murder.

Police say Maryland-National Capital Park Police and county police officers were called to the Northwest Branch Trail on Jan. 1 for a welfare check found 20-year-old Catherine Alvarado of Hyattsville suffering from stab wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say Vazquez-Juarez and Alvarado had previously been in a relationship. Vazquez-Juarez is in custody of the Department of Corrections and being held without bond.
