Southwest adds new cockpit barriers for pilot safety

Southwest Airlines is installing secondary flight deck barriers on all new aircraft to enhance cockpit security. These barriers, mandated by the FAA since 2018, serve as an added layer of protection when the main cockpit door is open, preventing unauthorized access. Aviation labor unions have long advocated for these barriers, especially in the wake of the September 11 attacks.
