Officer hospitalized after crash during procession for late Hurst chief

A police officer was seriously injured Thursday afternoon in a crash that occurred during a procession honoring Hurst Police Chief Steve Niekamp, who died unexpectedly the day before. Emergency crews responded quickly, and Fort Worth Fire EMS confirmed the officer was transported to Harris Methodist Hospital with serious injuries. Fort Worth police are investigating the crash and have not yet released further details.
