Pelican Bay Police seek court decision on fate of Abu, the spider monkey, amid safety and legal concerns

Investigators say the last time Abu got a tetanus and rabies shot was in May 2023. To find out if Abu has rabies, a state health official told police—despite opinions—it would require euthanizing the animal. Pelican Bay opted to expand Anu's quarantine. The Johnson County facility where Abu is says the spider monkey is says he was six to eight pounds underweight, but starting to get bigger
