Heartland Flyer train service at risk as Texas and Oklahoma drop funding

A long‑running Amtrak route connecting North Texas to Oklahoma City is in jeopardy after lawmakers in both states failed to include funding for the Heartland Flyer in their new budgets. The 206‑mile service could end when the current agreement expires on August 31, according to TxDOT. Texas Rail Advocates says about 80,000 people ride the train each year and are now at risk of losing the service.
