Federal judge blocks mass layoffs during government shutdown

A judge temporarily prohibited the Trump administration from firing federal employees during the shutdown, saying the firings appear to be politically motivated. The White House ordered the Pentagon to find ways to pay members of the military as the government shutdown continues.
