It's just mid-September, and most of Oklahoma's lofty preseason goals are already out of reach. The Sooners hoped to return to the College Football Playoff this season before Saturday's loss to Ohio State.
Webb threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game to break a tie with 3:41 to play and California got its first win over a Top 25 team in nearly four years, beating No. 11 Texas 50-43 on Saturday night.
Trevor Knight passed for 247 yards and Daniel LaCamera kicked five field goals to lead No. 17 Texas A&M to a 29-16 victory over Auburn Saturday night.
Patrick Mahomes threw for five touchdowns, three to Johnathan Giles, and ran for another to lead Texas Tech past Louisiana Tech 59-45 on Saturday night.
Kyle Hicks ran for 117 yards with a long touchdown and also scored on a 25-yard catch as TCU beat Iowa State 41-20 on Saturday in the first game this season that counts in the Big 12 standings.
It took transferring to California for quarterback Davis Webb finally to get the chance to play against the Texas team he grew up backing.
TCU coach Gary Patterson isn't worried about the College Football Playoff or that the Horned Frogs dropped out of the national rankings. "I'm just trying to beat Iowa State," he said.
Coming off a lopsided victory against Kentucky and playing at rival and No. 15 Tennessee next week, Florida will try to avoid joining a long list of college teams to endure a letdown this season when it hosts North Texas (1-1) on Saturday.
The Tigers (1-1) and Aggies (2-0) open league play Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium in a matchup of two teams who haven't fared so well in the SEC the past couple of seasons.
