Wrong-Way Crash On Haltom City Highway

HALTOM CITY (CBSDFW.COM) - Two drivers were transported to the hospital early Wednesday morning after a wrong-way crash in Haltom City. The incident happened at around 5:00 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 121, heading into Fort Worth.

According to an official with the Haltom City Police Department, a wrong-way driver collided with another vehicle that was traveling on the highway heading into Fort Worth. The victim is reportedly an active duty Marine who was heading into work.

That victim was taken to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth and is expected to be okay. His name has not been released.

Meanwhile, the wrong-way driver was also taken to JPS Hospital in Fort Worth in serious condition after being cut out of his vehicle. That driver's name has also not yet been released.

No other passengers were inside of either vehicle.

Emergency crews were forced to shut down the southbound lanes of the highway early Wednesday morning that so the crash scene could be investigated and cleaned up. This came right before the morning's rush hour began, creating nasty traffic backups for commuters heading into Fort Worth. All lanes of traffic have since been opened back up to travelers.

Authorities are still investigating the crash, and trying to determine how a driver ended up heading the wrong direction along the freeway.
