What Mother's Day Means To Me

This Mother's Day, we asked some members of the CBS DFW family to reflect on what the day means to them.

The love I have for my mother has been put in a new light during the past two years of watching my wife be a mom for the first time.  When you're parenting instead of being parented, new appreciation and admiration spring forth.

I never thought a great deal about how much work it had to be for my mother to stay at home full-time with my brother and me.  But I see now, as an adult, the toll it can take on my wife just chasing, teaching and playing with ONE child at home all day.  So thanks to my mother for hanging in there through the "stay at home" years.  You deserve so much more praise than this space will allow.

I watch as my wife so diligently picks out clothes and food for our oblivious 20-month-old.  And I know that my mom did that for me for so many years that when I rarely said "thank you."  What a treasure to have someone to provide such a caring and nurturing environment for me... and what a rare thing it is today, sadly.

One word pops into my mind when I think of my mom: selfless.  Setting aside for however many years it was to manage a home of love, put her childrens' needs before hers, and repeating day after day.  And I see clearly how much I love my mom for modeling for me what to look for in a wife.  And I've been blessed with the best.

Happy Mother's Day Mom!  I love you!
