Wedding Bells Ringing At Dallas Senior Living Center

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The world may still be talking about Kim Kardashian's wedding over the weekend, but two sets of pending nuptials at The Vickery Towers, a Dallas senior living center along Greenville Avenue, has that facility all abuzz.

Lora Odenbaugh and Melvin Martin began dating in the dining room of the Vickery.  "We just sat at the same dinner table and the rest is history," Lora tells CBS 11. "Looking at his eyes I just knew he was the one." They'll be married September 25.  Six days later Alma Howard and Jerry Calhoun will tie the knot, too.

According to Calhoun, Alma was an Vickery 'ambassador' he met when he moved in.  "First person I've met when I started moving here and she was very friendly and very helpful and it's just kind of grown from there."

"He's just an awful nice guy," Alma chimes in, adding, "We played Bingo together and one thing led to another!"

Marriage is meaningful, even more so for Lora.  She'll be 90 in a few weeks and this will be her first marriage.  "I think it's wonderful you can find love at any age.   Especially at this time of our lives.  We don't have to live alone or be unhappy."

Melvin remembers his time before Lora.  "Very lonesome.  And she filled the bill,"  he says, adding, "Very kind and sweet person."   They'll be married at Vickery Towers with a reception following.

At first Alma and Jerry planned a private ceremony, but all their children got involved and now it's changed; the marriage will take place at her daughter's home.  "Just a casual wedding; his son's going to stand up for him and my best friend turned me down," she says, smiling mischievously, "so I don't have a matron of honor yet."  Not to worry, there's still a month to find one.

Jerry Calhoun is of Scottish descent, and he plans to celebrate that family heritage by wearing a Calhoun tartan to his wedding.  Alma's even arranged for a piper.  Both couples wish each other well.  "I just hope that Alma's fiancé is as good a kisser as Melvin is," Lora says matter-of-factly.
