Webb & Hunter Both Back On Mound For Rangers
ARLINGTON (AP) - Brandon Webb is pitching in games again and Tommy Hunter is back on the mound throwing batting practice for the Texas Rangers.
Webb, still trying to come back from right shoulder surgery in 2009, needed only 16 pitches to get through two perfect innings in an extended spring training game in Arizona on Monday.
Texas manager Ron Washington says Webb's fastball topped out at 84 mph, but the right-hander had some good sink on his ball. The 2006 NL Cy Young winner will likely pitch again Saturday with the plan to go three innings.
Hunter, who sustained a right groin strain in spring training, threw live batting practice at Rangers Ballpark. Washington says Hunter showed no residual problem from the groin injury and used all his pitches.
