AUSTIN (AP) — The Bible on which George Washington placed his hand the first time he took the oath of office as U.S. president will go on display for one-day only at the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library in Austin.

The George Washington Presidential Inaugural Bible will be displayed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday only at the LBJ Library.

The volume is owned by St. John's Lodge No. 1, Ancient York Masons, Free & Accepted Masons, which was founded in New York City in 1757 and is the oldest Masonic lodge in the state of New York.

Washington, who was a leading Freemason in Virginia and the new republic, was sworn in as president in 1789 at New York's old City Hall on Wall Street, later called Federal Hall.
