Warm Weekend, but Truly Fall Like Next Week... Plus Monarch Butterfly Migration

COLDEST AIR OF THE SEASON COMING NEXT WEEK…

A strong cold front will arrive Monday night into Tuesday next week and usher in some of the coldest air of the season.  Temperatures will only top out in the 60s and 70s next Tuesday and Wednesday, but it will be the mornings that will be chilly.  Morning lows Wednesday and Thursday morning will be in the 40s!  There won't be any precipitation with this front Monday night as the upper level energy will be too far to the north to bring us rain.

WARMING FOR THE WEEKEND…

Before that front gets here, we have a warm up on the way for the weekend.  Friday afternoon will see high temps in the mid 80s.  Saturday will warm into the upper 80s.  Sunday and Monday of next will warm all the way to 90 degrees.  Mostly sunny skies will be expected each day.  Mornings will be comfortable starting in the 50s tomorrow morning, and then in the 60s Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning.

MONARCH BUTTERFLY MIGRATION…

October is the month where we see Monarch Butterflies in North Texas as they are traveling from the north to their winter home in Mexico.  Over a half billion butterflies migrate from Canada and the eastern US to a spot 60 miles northwest of Mexico City.  Monarch butterflies use north winds that develop in October across the southern Plains to make their journey south.  Unlike birds that use wing power, butterflies are more dependent on air currents to help migrate.  Now thru the month of October is a great time to spot the butterfly.  This Saturday, Oct. 15, is also the annual Butterfly Flutterby in Grapevine.
