DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas Police Department confirmed via its Facebook page that veteran police officer Sr. Cpl. Doreen Sotelo-Celedon was fired today for her DWI arrest from a year ago.
Sr. Cpl. Sotelo-Celedon drove drunk around 2:35 a.m. on Jan. 24, 2015, and was arrested after a traffic stop by Cedar Hill police, Dallas police said in a news release. Police impounded her personal vehicle and drew her blood to determine her blood-alcohol content, police said at the time.
After a hearing this afternoon, Chief David Brown fired her. The 24-year veteran was recently assigned to the South Central Patrol Division.
According to civil service rules, Sr. Cpl. Sotelo-Celedon has the right to appeal the firing.
Her attorney, Mike Snipes said her criminal case was dismissed.
"I'm very surprised," said Snipes, a former judge. He added that the case "will not be refiled, so there is no pending criminal case. So I don't understand what the chief did."
