THE COLONY (CBSDFW.COM) - They are a down to earth couple from Waco but their fan base is out of this world.
That was apparent at Nebraska Furniture Mart Tuesday night where fans traveled from as far away as Florida to see Chip and Joanna Gaines.
Frankie Warren traveled a thousand miles to be there.
"Oh I just love them. I watched their show all the time," Warren said.
The Gaines' home remodeling show Fixer Upper documents their work around Waco.
The couple tried to explain their appeal while marketing their new line of furniture.
"A lot of it's got to do with the true love that we feel for one another I think a lot of people watch that on the couch and go they love each other like we love each other I think people connect with the idea that we're like them," said Chip Gaines.
That was obvious when Chip accidentally autographed the antique flooring Carol Kohankie just wanted him to look at.
"Can you hurry up and wipe off that permanent marker before we get sued and mass murdered? So sorry," said Chip Gaines.
After answering questions from an audience that covered two levels of the store, CBS11 asked the couple if they had plans to venture outside Waco and renovate homes in North Texas.
"Right now we want to stay at home base just so we can be there for the kids," said Joanna Gaines.
That's disappointing to Frankie Warren who says she could use their help.
"Yea when are they coming to Florida and maybe they can do something about about that little shack I have on the side of the road," said Warren.
Chip Gaines is from Grapevine and said he never expected this kind of success.
