UNT Set To Hire UNLV President
DENTON (AP) — The University of North Texas has cleared the way to hire the president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as its next leader.
UNT said in a statement Wednesday that Dr. Neal Smatresk was named the sole finalist to become the university's next president. He is expected to be confirmed next month.
State law requires UNT system regents to wait 21 days before the vote.
The 62-year-old Smatresk has served as UNLV's president since 2009.
He is a native of Arlington, Texas, a Dallas-Fort Worth suburb about 40 miles south of UNT's Denton campus.
U.S. Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada said in a statement that he was sad to see Smatresk leave UNLV. Reid called Smatresk a "terrific partner."
