Frisco residents raised concerns before city approved Universal Kids Resort

The project drew attention in Frisco since it was first proposed. In 2023, the Frisco City Council approved the zoning request for the park, despite concerns from some nearby residents about traffic, crime and quality of life.

"I feel like it's a big project, it's going to impact Frisco for the next 100 years. There's no reason to rush through it. It doesn't make any sense," one resident said at the time.

Some homeowners in the Cobb Hill neighborhood said they worried the park would bring more traffic and lower property values.

"Our home in Cobb Hill is our retirement home and approval of this SUP will undoubtedly alter our way of life," another resident said.

Universal Studios representatives told city leaders the park would generate millions in sales, property and hotel taxes for Frisco.

"From every aspect, it will be something that I think the City of Frisco will be proud of," John Reynolds, Universal Studios senior vice president of external affairs, said during a final presentation.

Despite the opposition, the council approved the project.
