Unique Rockwall Parks Built To Accommodate Everyone

A pair of new, unique destinations in Rockwall were built to accommodate everyone - especially those with physical limitations.

On the north side of Rockwall, Phelps Lake Park welcomed its first boaters and fishers earlier this year.

City of Rockwall Parks and Recreation Manager Andy Hesser says that boat launch is the first of its kind here in North Texas. And residents -- even those confined to wheelchairs, can enjoy a relaxing day fishing from the pier.

A little further south, Yellowjacket Park was recently redone as a barrier-free park, allowing kids with physical challenges to take advantage of all that it has to offer.

Hesser says the idea to turn Yellowjacket Park into a barrier-free park came not from a parent of a disabled child -- but rather from a disabled adult.

Yellowjacket Park and Phelps Lake Park -- two new recreational choices for the people of Rockwall.
